Reflections
This photo essay morphed into something I should have planned from the very beginning, a way of finding the humour during a very lonely time for everyone. My close relationships are so precious to me (like most people) and although I value my time alone these tiny ways of finding togetherness have helped me keep my humour.
Some of my plans didn’t work out. The shots of my neighbours weren’t interesting to me at all, although it was fun to see them all lined up at the fence! I also didn’t introduce yellow in every picture as I intended, some cropping etc and it just didn’t work out.
I ended up shooting in aperture priority mode. This was an idea from Gordon, and it helped me a bit with the quality of my shots.
The post production was really difficult for me. I found Lightroom very difficult, and it works so differently than other adobe products. I feel that the learning curve of lightroom, and getting my photos through post production, really ate into my time of taking photos and learning to shoot better quality photos. It came together for me in the end through a slide show in Powerpoint – I exported my photos from Lightroom all at the same size (1920×1080). I also exported my type and graphic assets from Illustrator, then dragged them into my presentation which was easier than expected.
I also had a lot of trouble with image sizing and I look forward to understanding this better!

Editing process
The composition of the photo, and what I wanted to say, was really important to me. I don’t feel I have aquired the skills yet to pull off a project like this, so I had to focus on the design and hope that my feelings, and love, showed through. In lightroom, I mostly adjusted contrast, and sometimes the color, and occassionally if the exposure was really off (like in slide #3) because I wanted my goofy dad to show through in my own sense of humour. I felt very unsure of what I was seeing on 2 different screens (laptop and monitor).
I hope you enjoyed my slideshow!
